“Waka Waka, Time for Africa” is the official World Cup song. It was recorded by Shakira and South African radio started playing it at the end of April. But the World Cup has another, unofficial, song composed by a singer who was born in Somalia

Written by musician K’Naan, “Waving Flag” [1] was a hit in Brazil and many other countries well before [2] the release of the song recorded by Shakira.  Waving Flag is an upbeat [3]  and involving song. In Brazil it has been recorded in Portuguese by Skank.  Keinan Abdi Warsame, better known as K’naan, is a Muslim, [4]  born inSomalia, in 1978.  To flee [5] the civil war Keinan’s family went to North America at the beginning of the 1990s.  K’naan has lived in Canada since he was a teenager.
