Fernando de Noronha: Paradise found

Márcia Pavarini fell in love with Fernando de Noronha, an ecological paradise made up of wonderful beaches, beautiful landscapes and rich marine fauna

The Brazilian coast is littered [1] withparadisiacal havens [2].  One of them isFernando de Noronha, an incredibly beautiful place which attracts tourists from all overBrazil and the world beyond. But what makes Fernando de Noronha so special? The photographer and travel columnist Márcia Pavarini has the answer: “Traveling to Fernando de Noronha means entering another world, seeing dolphins [3], diving[4] in crystalline waters, walking on desert beaches and admiring the nature on Brazil’s most beautiful island. And when the sun sets, you have to go to the forrósand maculelês that take place practically every night in Vila dos Remédios.”  In June Márcia went off to this magical place, along with her husband, Pedro, and their daughters Jeannine and Michelle.  

Renting a buggy

Márcia says the best way to see the place is to rent a buggy (which costs between R$70 and R$90 a day). Noronha is home to 16 wonderful beaches, including Sancho, one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil. Another fantastic place is Baía dos Porcos. Surfers prefer Bode, Boldró, and Quixida beaches. Divers should go to Praia da Atalaia (at Baía do Sancho), where tourists can find the most spectacular natural pool on the island. Another of Márcia’s tips is the ‘basic tour’, which is a boat trip that gives tourists a chance to see dolphins up close [5]  and personal.
